During the second trimester, Saint John middle school Faith in Action classes have been busy with many projects designed to integrate the Beatitudes into their daily lives. The eighth graders organized and served a fresh breakfast to people who obtain food at the parish pantry. Several students also worked alongside the adult volunteers in the pantry bagging rice, beans, and apples, and restocking shelves. [ 280 more words ]

Catholic Schools Week 2019 was a big success at Saint John School. With the theme of Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed., the Saint John community celebrated in both traditional and new ways. On Monday, we celebrated our community as well as took the opportunity to serve others. New this year, a photo booth was set up for students and staff to record the joy found in our community. Students from Saint John School won top awards in the San Diego STEAM Maker Festival, an annual December event and competition that focuses on different activities that pertain to Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Some events in the STEAM Maker Festival are competitions, while others are exhibitions showcasing different projects and experiments that students have completed. The students of Saint John School were given the special opportunity to view and venerate the first-class relic of St. Maria Goretti, hosted by Ms. Jennifer Piranio in early September. More than 170 "blessing bags" were put together May 22 by a team of dedicated volunteers (and their families) from the current Saint John School sixth grade Faith in Action class, which organized the project. Now anyone from the school may fill out a permission slip to receive bags to distribute to people who would benefit from receiving one. Members of the Saint John School community opened their hearts and sent in thousands of items to be placed in the bags, which will now be distributed by families and staff to homeless and struggling people in need.
